BREAKING NEWS: 'Zona LB goes black and orange

IT DIDN'T TAKE long. Arizona linebacker Rueben Robinson took an unofficial trip to Corvallis, was offered and gave his verbal commitment to Oregon State all within the space of four days. And the 6-2, 215-pounder with 4.6 speed has drawn comparisons to another Arizona product who now dons the black and orange and projects as a starter this season.

Linebacker Rueben Robinson out of Chandler gave his verbal to OSU commitment just minutes ago. brought you the news of the Hamilton High linebacker getting his first offer on his unofficial visit to Oregon State. Well we are pleased to inform you that Rueben has decided to give his verbal commitment to the Beavers.

Robinson called and committed to OSU offensive line coach Mike Cavanaugh just moments ago.

"I called Coach Cavanaugh and committed and he told me to call Coach Riley. I called but he didn't answer but left him a message with the news."

He says that Cavanaugh and the rest of the staff were excited. "They said how they really wanted me and were excited about me going there and how I was really high on their board."

Robinson has been drawing comparisons to current Beaver and Arizona product Keaton Kristick.

It only took a few days after his unofficial visit for Rueben to make up his mind and commit to play at OSU.

He says, "I talked to my family and I really liked the visit. I actually thought about committing while I was up there. But I came home and talked to my family but ultimately it was my decision. They have a great coaching staff and program and they have a good engineering department and that is what I want to major in."

So why commit now?

"It just came down to the fact that I couldn't think of a better situation. They are like the linebacker university of the west. They have a great defense and I couldn't see myself any other place."

Sometimes the trend is for players to early verbal and still keep their options open. Rueben says this is not the case with him. "I am a solid commit. I haven't even thought about considering other options."

Robinson was offered by Northwestern today but says he is not interested in any other programs.
