OSU staying in close contact w/ local talent

ONE OF THE top prospects in the state of Oregon this recruiting cycle, Boseko Lokombo now holds three Pac-10 offers and five full rides overall. Oregon State offered the 6-3, 215-pounder with impressive speed early, and they're staying in very close contact.

Lokombo talked with the UO coaches this past weekend and he's kept in close touch with Oregon State assistant Jay Locey through email.

"(Oregon) is still showing a lot of interest and keeping in contact with me. And I talk to coach Locey (nearly) every day through email," said Lokombo.

IN ADDITION TO the Beavers, Lokombo holds a pair of Pac-10 offers from Washington State and Oregon. Boise State and Portland State have also offered.

Cal has increased their recruiting contact lately and he's also been hearing more from the UW.

Oregon State, Oregon, Cal and UCLA summer camps remain possibilities although a summer vacation back to Canada and the high price of gasoline might preclude hitting as many schools as he would like this offseason.

"I know I'm going to take some official visits, during my senior season," said Lokombo.

LOKOMBO's MEASURABLES, he carries 215 pounds on his 6-foot-3 frame and ran a very impressive hand-timed 4.42 in the 40, have some schools thinking linebacker and one is even talking about wide receiver.

Given his size and speed, and that he's still relatively new to the American game, it also wouldn't be much of a surprise if put his hand down in college and became a very effective defensive end.

Washington State was at South Eugene High in Oregon during the May Evaluation period, talked with Lokombo's high school coach and went over his tape, and offered shortly thereafter.

Lokombo lives in Eugene but he's kept an eye on the Cougs ever since coming to the States -- he was born in the Congo, moved to Canada, and then came to the Northwest prior to his junior year.

"I know a little bit about Washington State as well," said Lokombo. "It's closer to home and I've been watching them a little bit too. I've talked to (Rich Rasmussen) and he seems really interested in me."

HE SAID he doesn't have a leader but living in the Ducks' backyard probably won't hurt Oregon's chances.

"I don't have anybody as an overall (leader) but University of Oregon is local and that's pretty great because they're so close," said Lokombo.
