COMMIT: Beavs land Montana hoss

TWO FROM THE state of Oregon. One from Arizona. One from California. Three from Oklahoma. And now OREGON STATE has secured the eighth known verbal commitment of their 2009 recruiting class -- Tyler Thomas, a 6-4, 285-pound all-state offensive lineman from Kalispell, Montana. And it is the third pledge from an o-lineman in the class.

We only had a few moments to talk to the newest member of the Beavers family on Wednesday night but he did say something Oregon State fans should enjoy hearing.

Tyler Thomas is Corvallis bound.

"I did commit to Oregon was last Tuesday I think," said Thomas.

Thomas said the Beavers offered a trifecta to the student-athlete that he simply could not pass up.

"I just found that I really liked the coaching staff, I like the school and where it's at and I think the program is going in a good direction," said Thomas.

Thomas his junior year was second team All-State on both lines, while KFBB named him Class AA All-State and All-Conference as an offensive tackle, plus All-Conference at d-tackle.

At Flathead High, Thomas protects the blind side of Brock Osweiler, the highly touted quarterback of the Brave offense that ranked among the state leaders in several offensive categories last season.

He's also an accomplished wrestler and track and field athlete for Flathead, placing fifth at states in the shotput with a 48-4 1/2 mark and going deep into the state wrestling tourney in the heavyweight classification.

We'll have more with Thomas in the days to come.
