CORVALLIS -- Three OSU starters who didn't practice Monday, did practice on Tuesday. You can also listen to Mike Riley talk about Brandon Hughes, Al Afalava and Sammie Stroughter in the audio clip, plus how Jacquizz Rodgers and Shane Morales looked on the afternoon, which Beaver defensive end turned in the play of the day and more, in the BF.C practice notes.
The Beavs in shells and shorts for Tuesday's practice with the Thursday night tilt with No. 15 Utah getting bigger in the window and contact was limited.
On the play of the day, DE Slade Norris picked a pass off against the scout team, showing some quick reflexes, and ran it all the way back to paydirt.
Lyle Moevao took most of the snaps with the first team and was in good rhythm on Tuesday.
WR Shane Morales was the model of consistency on Tuesday. If Stroughter can't go or is limited, his role could become just that much more important.
There was no full-on contact but Jacquizz Rodgers continued to put together some wild runs.
Linebackers coach Greg Newhouse was all over the field today, at one point holding a small huddle for the 'backers to correct spied imperfections.
Even with their lauded success against USC, o-line coach Mike Cavanaugh wasn't giving the hosses any slack whatsoever. He was on them just as if it was the first day of fall camp.
Sean Canfield looked very comfortable on Tuesday throwing the ball.
QB Ryan Katz handled the majority of the snaps on the scout team, and found some success against the defense on a few occasions.
Newly transferred from Virginia, Beaver QB Peter Lalich took a handful of snaps with the scout team, as did Zach Andersen.
Lalich completed a bullet pass to Kyle Brown on his first attempt. He misfired on his second try.
The Beaver special teams saw Kahut, Matt Barker and Sean Sehnem getting in their kicking work; with Johnny Hekker and Sehnem doing the punting.
The defense was mostly busy fine tuning for the expected looks they'll see on Thursday night from from Utah's spread formation.
The offense meanwhile was finalizing their preparations for what is expected to be an attacking, aggressive Utah defense.
The tight ends didn't have the best of days, with Gabe Miller leaving practice early with an injury. Riley said after practice it was a groin pull and more on his status could be known tomorrow. Joe Halahuni stepped into the tight end rotation for Tuesday's practice with Miller out.
In a lighter moment, DE Kevin Frahm and DT Brennan Olander had their shirts tucked up -- a la the Rodgers brothers -- with the look of the d-linemen a less flattering one than that of the Texan receiver and running back.
The defense and offense practiced in the Truax outdoor facility and in Reser, respectively, before all gathering back at Reser for some final thoughts from Riley.
