BREAKING: 3-star corner goes black and orange

THREE STAR prospect Sean Martin -- one of the top cover cornerbacks in the Southland out of Santiago High with offers from Oregon State, Minnesota and others -- decided it was time to make his decision, and did so on Saturday in a surprising way...

As Martin (6-1, 170) watched the Oregon State-UCLA game unfold on Saturday afternoon, he saw two former teammates duking it out in Beavers running back Ryan McCants and Bruin cornerback Anthony Dye.

And it was conversations with both of them prior to Saturday that allowed Martin come to a decision on his college choice.

Martin called up head coach Mike Riley, who was in the same stadium, and told Riley he wanted to be a Beaver.

"I told Coach Riley that I wanted to commit, and I've been hyper ever since," said Martin. "I wanted to commit sometime soon and I went to the game today and saw the coaches from afar after the game and I thought it was the perfect opportunity to call Coach Riley, and commit, so I just did."

IN MARTIN, THE Beavers land one of the top cover corners in the Southland, a guy who stood out at every major Scout camp this spring and summer.

Meanwhile, Oregon State had everything that Martin was looking for in a school and football program.

"The coaches, the school, the atmosphere, the fans," said Martin. "They all made my decision easy for me after I thought about it."

Martin used McCants and Dye, neither strangers to the recruiting process, as sounding boards.

"I actually talked to both of them before I committed," said Martin.

Martin is the fourth player to verbally commit to the Beavers in just the last few days, and the second from the Inland Empire, joining guard Joshua Andrews from Colony High in Ontario. For the 2009 Oregon State commit list, head here.
