Bob Jeremiah's helmet comes home

THE OREGONIAN TODAY published a story entitled, "A priceless gift (with a crack)." Columnist John Canzano tells the story of how a helmet worn by the late Bob Jeremiah in Oregon State's 1967 upset of USC found it's way to its rightful home.

The helmet belonged to Oregon State defensive lineman Bob Jeremiah. He wore it in the 1967 Beavers' upset of No. 1 USC. Jeremiah, who made a key fourth quarter tackle for loss in the win, received the game ball from Dee Andros. The next day, Jeremiah left Corvallis to begin military service for the Vietnam War. An 11-year old Beavers fan, in the stands with his grandfather the day OSU beat Southern Cal 3-0, eventually received Jeremiah's helmet. Thirty two years later, the helmet came home.
