HOOPS: Robinson ejected in loss

OREGON STATE WOULDN'T go away quietly in the second half but Arizona pulled away late, partially on a 20-3 Arizona advantage in trips to the free throw line, as the Wildcats won 64-47 in Tucson. Oregon State coach Craig Robinson received his first ejection as head man of the Beavs.

Robinson was ejected towards the end of the game for protesting a non-call. Replays showed Arizona's Jordan Hill crashing into two Beavers who were set under the basket, the contact knocking both out of position for a rebound. But officials let them play on.

"When my two guys fell down, and there was no call, that is what set me off," Robinson said. "..I said, 'That was a foul,' but I said it very loud. I wanted him to make sure he heard me."

He did, and Robinson received two technicals in short order.

"I usually have a really good relationship with the referees, so I was surprised," said Robinson.

The game had been decided by the time Robinson left but Oregon State made Arizona work for it over the final 20 minutes, chopping down a 15-point lead to 34-27 with six straight points to open the second half.

Although the Beavs kept Arizona within arm's reach, they couldn't get closer than eight over the final five minutes. After Robinson's technical, Arizona made four free throws effectively settling the matter.

Oregon State went to the foul line only three times in the game, hitting 1-of-3.

Arizona, on the other hand, connected on 17-of-20 from the charity stripe.

Lathen Wallace led Oregon State (6-8, 1-3) with a season-high 17 points. The Beavs actually shot better than the 'Cats on the day, at a 44.4 percent clip (20-45). Arizona was held to 38.9 percent shooting (21-54), and were 23.8 percent from behind the arc. OSU hit 31.6 percent of their treys, connecting on 6-of-19. Arizona won the rebounding battle 31-20.

Omari Johnson (4-for-8) and Calvin Haynes (4-14) each added nine points.

Oregon State next faces Washington State (Jan. 15) followed by Washington (Jan. 17). Both games are at home.
