Hawaiian DT high on OSU after Beaver trip

DT SEMISI TOKOLAHI out of Hilo, Hawaii orally committed to UW last month but decided he also wanted to take trips elsewhere, making him a soft verbal commitment on Scout.com. His second official was to Oregon State and one of the main things he wanted to see was how he fit in with the current OSU players. Most assuredly, that question was answered. "Oh my goodness, I was impressed," he said.

Tokolahi said he got along swimmingly with the Oregon State players, including player host Jesse Fifita.

"Oh my goodness, I was impressed. Those players, they are something else," said Tokolahi. "Those guys, I didn't have to ask any questions...they're just all for each other, no matter what else comes down.

"It was great. The chemistry, everyone was tight with each other."

TOKOLAHI ALSO spent some quality face time with the coaching staff while he was in Corvallis.

"I got to watch tape and have some one-on-ones, I talked to coach Joe (Seumalo) and I got to sit down with coach (Mike) Riley, have some one-on-one talks...coach Riley, he's a good guy," said Tokolahi.

Tokolahi is scheduled to trip to Washington next, on Jan. 23. Signing Day is Feb. 4.

TOKOLAHI IS CRAMMING IN all his official visits into a small window, the final month of January, having come into the recruiting process late. He took his first trip, of any kind, to the mainland a little over a week ago when he visited WSU.

"Everything is cool. I enjoyed Oregon State and now I just have to see what Washington has to (offer) me," he said.

HILO IS NOT a recruiting hotbed in the same way other areas around Hawaii have become. But Tokolahi's breakout senior season at Hilo High had OSU and other schools come charging after him late in the fall.

The 6-3, 290-pounder averaged 11 tackles per game and logged 11.5 sacks in being named the BIIF D-I Defensive Player of the Year. He was also named second-team all-state.
