Ike Diogu scored 21 points and neutralized Nebraska's strength inside as Arizona State beat the Cornhuskers 75-63 Saturday night to win its holiday tournament for the 11th time in 14 years. Bucknell beat UC Santa Barbara 67-60 in the consolation game of the ASU/azcentral.com Hoops Classic. Tommy Smith had a season-high 16 points, seven rebounds and six assists for Arizona State (8-3), which won its fourth straight. News and Notes

  • The Sundevils split the 2002 season series with the Beavers. Each team won at home. ASU lost on December 22 to the Beavers 62-57 in Corvallis and defeated the Beavers on January 4, 67-58 in Tempe.

  • The last time ASU went to the NCAA tournament was during the 1994-95 season when they went 24-9 overall and 12-6 in conference play.

  • Before coming to Arizona State, head coach Rob Evans, coached at the University of Mississippi where he lead the Rebels to two NCAA appearances. In 1998 he was named SEC Coach of the Year.
