Beavs drill Ducks 8-1 to take series

OREGON STATE took the deciding game of the Civil War series in baseball, 8-1, in front of 13,709 fans at Portland's PGE Park on Sunday. The Beavers' Jorge Reyes had full command of his pitches on the mound against the Ducks, surrendering only two hits in seven innings. In the three game series, Oregon State held Oregon to just five runs total.

Reyes was pretty much lights out all day long.

He limited Oregon to just two hits while walking three and striking out six to improve to 4-1 this season. His only run allowed came in the seventh and was unearned.

Stefen Romero went 2-for-4 and drove in the game's first run with a single in the first, and then singled home two more runs in the fifth inning. That staked Oregon State to an 8-0 lead.

Rob Folsom also had two hits for Oregon State (15-6, 2-1 Pac-10), which has now won seven of its last eight games.

The Beavers chased Oregon starter Bennett Whitmore after just 1 2/3 innings.

Already up 4-0 entering the third, Oregon State added a run in the inning for a 5-0 lead when Folsom scored on the second of two wild pitches in the inning. The Beavers added to the lead in the fifth on the strength of Romero's two RBI and a run scoring double from Santos.

Oregon State nest takes the diamond on Friday, hosting California in the first of a three-game series at Goss Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m. PT.
