Beavs take series from Cardinal

OREGON STATE broke out just before stretch time on Sunday, scoring three runs in the seventh on their way to a 5-2 victory in the regular season finale. The Beavs are 35-17 overall and have a 15-12 mark in Pac-10 play. The Beavers ended the regular season winning four of their last five games.

Coupled with UCLA's loss to ASU on Sunday, the Beavs finished tied for third in the Pac-10.

"This is an important win as we wait to see what will happen in the postseason," Oregon State's Pat Casey said. "Tyler (Waldron) certainly looked good. We called on him on an important day and he looked sharp."

Seedings and pairings for the 64-team NCAA field will be unveiled on Monday morning.

Making his second start in less than week, Waldron allowed multiple hits in an inning once, the seventh. He ended the game with five strikeouts and a walk. After allowing a hit to start the game, he retired the next 10 batters he faced before allowing a single to Toby Gerhart in the fourth.

Waldron has now gone at least six full innings in nine of his 13 starts this season. He picked up the decision on Sunday to finish the regular season with a 6-3 record.

Up 2-1 in the seventh, Ryan Ortiz singled to start the inning and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Stefen Romero. After a walk, Koa Kahalehoe came through with a two run double. John Wallace later singled to score Kahalehoe.

The Beavers managed just five hits off four Stanford relievers but utilized seven walks and four Stanford errors in the win.
