Cummings, Poyer help lead USA to Gold Medal

KEVIN CUMMINGS SCORED on a 47-yard reception and Jordan Poyer had three tackles in the gold medal game of the Junior World Championships in Canton, Ohio as the United States defeated Canada 41-3.

Jordan Poyer, Kevin Cummings and the American team were never tested by the field, outscoring their three opponents by a ridiculous 174-3 scoring margin.

Cummings' touchdown catch came with 2:58 remaining in the third quarter and effectively ended any comeback hopes of the Canadians, it was the first score of the second half and pushed the USA advantage to 25-3.

The eight-team tournament also featured France, New Zealand, Japan, Germany, Mexico and Sweden.

Poyer, playing cornerback in the tournament, will arrive at Oregon State this summer as a safety. He earned all-tournament first team defense honors.

Cummings played receiver and defensive back during his prep career at Crespi High and will come to OSU as a receiver.

Both will be in Corvallis later this month to participate in OSU's bridge program for incoming student-athletes. Cummings is then expected to grayshirt and join the Beavers in January of 2010 according to Oregon State Sports Information while Poyer will start his Beaver career this season and take part in fall camp in August.
