Anthony Wheat Commits To Oregon State

Anthony Wheat, a 6-2, 200 pound defensive back from Compton (Calif.) Dominguez tripped to Oregon State over the weekend and after mulling over his decision, has decided to be a Beaver.

"I called them up earlier today and told them I was coming," Wheat said. "I had a good time on the visit and I'm cool with some of the players there like Harvey Whiten who played at Dominguez. I had a trip set with Arizona for next weekend but I already canceled it.

"Coach Erickson is coming over tomorrow to talk with my family but my decision is already made. They're bringing me in as a safety which is where I wanted to play."

Wheat got off to a great start this season but tore his ACL midway through the year and missed the rest of the season.

"A lot of schools backed off me after that," Wheat said. "I really wanted to go to USC because it was close to home but they stopped recruiting me along with several others. Oregon State was always there and never wavered. That meant a lot to me. Plus I like it in Corvallis. It's real quiet and you can just focus on football and school there."
