DAY 18: Skelly and teams

CORVALLIS -- There was great coverage in the initial part of the red zone skelly session, keyed by Lance Mitchell and with Sean Canfield looking to connect with Joe Halahuni. But both Halahuni and Damola Adeniji were to pull in a number of highlight reel catches on Saturday, and Casey Kjos wasn't doing too badly in his own right.

Red-Zone Skelly:
Sophomore tight end Joe Halahuni had two hands on the ball and seemed to have possession on the ball from Sean Canfield, but Lance Mitchell swooped in and slapped the ball out of his hands.

Damola Adeniji showed great athleticism in faking out the secondary, going one way, then another, and Canfield read his actions perfectly in delivering a spot-on throw in the back of the end zone.

Team Session:
Senior defensive end Ben Terry puts big pressure on Canfield in the backfield, forcing the quarterback to scramble. He could not get a pass away as there was superb lockdown defense by the secondary.

A good show of power by sophomore guard Grant Johnson, who put a monster block on senior defensive tackle Latu Moala on one play, opening up a hole for sophomore running back Jacquizz Rodgers to zip through.

Casey Kjos outran Mitchell and had a few good paces on him, but Canfield's pass was just out of the receiver's grasp.

A few plays later, Kjos was once again able to burn by Mitchell. This time, however, Canfield hit his receiver -- and for a big gain.

Kjos continued to impress later on in the session, leaping to make a grab of a Canfield pass down the sideline before stepping out of bounds.

On a run play by Jacquizz, Adeniji laid into Mitchell and knocked the safety to the ground, opening up a big hole. The senior wideout then came up lame on the play, favoring his right leg, but only sat out a few plays and returned in the next session.

Joe Halahuni made yet another impressive reception off a Ryan Katz pass, showing off his athleticism to go up for the ball and snatch it out of the air as it sailed a bit high.

Great defensive smarts by sophomore cornerback David Ross on a pass to senior wideout Taylor Kavanaugh. Kavanaugh got tripped up and but still tipped it up in the air for Ross to come up and grab for an interception.
