THE INJURY BUG jumped up and bit the Men in Black during fall camp with the trainers tending to almost two dozen players at one point. Here's the latest heading into the matchup with Portland State.

PLAYER:  WR Darrell Catchings

STATUS: Will miss the Portland State game, but coaches hope he is cleared to play for UNLV or Cincinnati.

IMPACT:  Catchings was expected to start at split end and be one of the primary weapons on offense.  His absence in the lineup forced true freshman Markus Wheaton into a bigger role and walk-on Domala Adeniji into the starting lineup.

PLAYER: TE Howard Croom

INJURY: Concussion

STATUS: May miss the Portland State game.

IMPACT: A two year starter is missing from the lineup, but sophomore Joe Halahuni has stepped up and should alleviate any worries. Depth is a concern though.

PLAYER: OT Wilder McAndrews

STATUS: Almost fully healed.

IMPACT: Will help fill out the two deeps.

PLAYER: RB Ryan McCants

INJURY: Knee surgery

STATUS: Has been very committed during rehab and should be back practicing in mid to late September.

IMPACT: True freshman Jovan Stevenson will serve as Jacquizz Rodgers' backup.

PLAYER: QB Lyle Moevao

INJURY: Right throwing shoulder

STATUS: Started to throw to receivers in late August; coaches goal is to have him ready for the UNLV contest.

IMPACT: Redshirt freshman Ryan Katz will be the backup gunslinger until Moevao is fully healed.

PLAYER: OT Timi Oshinowo

STATUS: Originally scheduled to return in mid-October Oshinowo is ahead of schedule and may return in early October.

IMPACT: Before injuring his knee he was the starter at left tackle. Due to his injury he probably won't play in 2009, but could help fill out the two deeps.

PLAYER: CB Brandon Hardin

INJURY: Hand and ankle

STATUS: The big cornerback can't seem to get 100% healthy with a bum ankle and a cast over his hand.

IMPACT: Despite being banged up Hardin will play on special teams and be the backup at one of the cornerback spots.

PLAYER: S Josh LaGrone

INJURY: Knee (torn ACL)

STATUS: Had surgery in late August and is out for the year.

IMPACT: Was playing "outstanding" according to Riley and would have played on special teams and possibly at safety.

PLAYER: DT Brennan Olander

STATUS: Missed most of fall camp and all of spring camp.

IMPACT: The team has a healthy rotation at defensive tackle, but Olander was expected to push for a starting position.

PLAYER: LB Tony Wilson

STATUS: Wilson is out for the year.

IMPACT: Depth at middle linebacker took a major hit which may force a true freshman, Rueben Robinson or one of the Unga twins, into action.

PLAYER: WR Markus Wheaton

ISSUE:  NCAA Clearing House

STATUS: Unknown

IMPACT: Wheaton was being prepped to start at split end due to Catchings injury, but has missed several practices due to the NCAA Clearing House dragging its feet. The question has to do with his transcript between junior and senior high school.

The coaches are fully confident everything will be okay once the NCAA is finished with the paperwork.

PLAYER: QB Peter Lalich

ISSUE:  Class status

STATUS:  Unknown, but currently running the scout team.

IMPACT: No impact - Lalich is fourth on the depth chart.
