Gerard Lawson Announces Intentions

Gerard Lawson, a 5-11, 170-pound athlete from Las Vegas (Nev.) Palo Verde has made his decision known. "He told Oregon State and UNLV that he would be making his decision Thursday, so he called up both schools yesterday and let them know," PV Head Coach Darwin Rost told TheInsiders Friday morning.

"We called up Coach Newhouse at Oregon State and he got a couple of the assistants on the phone to congratulate Gerard. He's going to Oregon State."

Lawson was PV's leading rusher, running 146 times for 812 yards and 10 scores. Rost, however, feels like Gerard's future is on defense. "He'll be a corner, no question about it," he said. "The great thing about Oregon State recruiting is that they recruit with the idea of what a player will be like in two years and Gerard has the frame where he'll grow some more and probably be 6 feet and 185 pounds easily."

Lawson was a three-year starter for Palo Verde, and he played both ways. Defensively, he had 39 tackles, 4 interceptions (two for touchdowns) and 6 passes defended as a senior.
