Series history (UNLV leads 3-1, 1-0 in Las Vegas).
Oregon State and UNLV have met four times with the Rebels holding a 3-1 advantage, including a 1-0 advantage in Las Vegas.

The first meeting between the two schools occurred in October of 1983 when the Randall Cunningham Rebels defeated OSU 35-21 in Corvallis. The Beavers first win against UNLV came in 2002 as the Beavers smothered the Rebels 47-17 - the largest margin of victory in the series.

The Beavers are only the third team from the Pac-10 to visit Sam Boyd Stadium and the first since 1991.

UNLV is 5-9 against Pac-10 teams with their last victory coming against Arizona State (23-20) last year in overtime.

OSU is 24-17-1 against Mountain West Conference having played every school but Air Force and TCU.

The Las Vegas Bowl.
In 2003, Mike Riley won his first bowl game as a Beaver, defeating New Mexico 55-14 in the Las Vegas Bowl. Las Vegas native running back Steven Jackson tied a bowl record with five touchdowns in the game and announced immediately after that he was forgoing his senior season to enter the NFL Draft – the All-American back was a first round draft pick of the St. Louis Rams and has since been a Pro Bowl participant.

The 2003 team had several Las Vegas natives, in addition to Jackson (Eldorado HS), defensive tackle Curtis Coker (Desert Pines), cornerback Gerard Lawson (Palo Verde), cornerback Kellen Marshall (Cimarron-Memorial), linebacker Jonathan Pollard (Las Vegas), linebacker Richard Seigler (Chaparral), safety Lawrence Turner (Cheyenne) and defensive end Jeff Van Orsow (Foothill).

Rebel connections.
OSU head coach Mike Riley and UNLV head coach Mike Sanford worked together at USC from 1993-96. Riley was the offensive coordinator while Sanford served as the receivers coach.

Riley and Sanford also worked together in the NFL in San Diego from 1999-2001. OSU defensive coordinator Mark Banker was on the staff as well.

OSU linebackers coach Greg Newhouse was the linebackers and kickers coach at UNLV from 1978-79. OSU running backs coach Reggie Davis was the running backs coach in Las Vegas from 2005-07 under Sanford.

There is no player from Oregon on the UNLV roster or a player from Nevada on the Oregon State roster.
