POLL TRACKER: Beavs climb one, lose in other

THE STARS SEEM to be aligning a bit. Oregon State climbed one spot in the USAToday/Coaches' poll following their season opening victory over Portland State. But in the Associate Press poll they stayed right where they were -- on the doorstep at No. 26. And a team that leapfrogged OSU, they're on the schedule and coming up fast.

OSU climbed one spot in the Coaches' poll to No. 24 following the first week of games. The AP was a different story.

First things first, Oregon State needs to take care of business this Saturday against UNLV.

If Oregon State wins, it sets up an intriguing battle, in Corvallis, between two similarly ranked teams in Week 3.

Cincinnati, the Beavs' opponent on Sept. 19, rocketed nine spots this week to leapfrog the Oregon State in the AP poll.

Oregon State stayed on the outside looking in, at No. 26, while Cincy entered the poll at No. 23. Cincinnati demolished Rutgers 45-17 on the road. They host Southeast Missouri State this week.

Also leapfrogging the Beavs in both polls was Miami, who knocked off No. 18 Florida State and entered the polls for the first time at Nos. 20 (AP) and 22 (Coaches').

Oregon State, who beat PSU 34-7, actually lost points in the AP poll, going from 122 to 113 after Week 1 while maintaining the 26th spot.

In other Pac-10 news, the pollsters hammered Oregon following their loss to Boise State. The Ducks were ranked No. 14 in the Coaches', No. 16 in the AP polls last week. After starting 0-1, Oregon dropped all the way out of the Top 25 in both polls.
