Powers to stay on west coast

Brandon Powers, a 6-2, 205-pound receiver from Los Angeles (Calif.) Franklin, has verbally committed to Oregon State according to his head coach, Armando Gonzalez.

"Brandon has been a two year starter for us as a free safety and receiver," Gonzalez told TheInsiders.com. "He had 70 catches for 1350 yards and 20 touchdowns. He had a great junior season and a phenomenal senior year. He's an impact player."

Gonzalez said that the Michigan State Spartans were the biggest competition for Powers. "He visited Michigan State and they had offered," Gonzalez said. "But he felt great about Oregon State and he really enjoyed his in-home visit with Dennis Erickson. He also had trips set up for San Diego State and San Jose State, but he cancelled those.

"He's a super kid, a special breed. He comes from a good family and just got a 1060 on his SAT. He's enrolled in our magnet school, so he has a lot going for him."
