Moevao injury ends season, OSU career

THE CAREER OF Oregon State quarterback Lyle Moevao looks to have come to a close. Moevao is out for the year after injuring his right ankle in practice on Tuesday. He will have surgery this Friday to repair the ligament damage.

"It's almost hard to believe," coach Mike Riley said. "When it rains it pours. I don't know what to say about it. He has worked so hard to get almost ready to go.

"I don't think he'll be ready to play again this year."

Moevao has been the backup quarterback the last four games as he rehabbed from shoulder surgery. He took just one snap in 2009.

Riley again said the Beavs will apply for a sixth year of eligibility for Moevao but he also stated it looks to be the longest of long shots. A sixth year requires all or most of two years lost to injury to receive one back, while Moevao redshirted his first year with OSU.

With Moevao out of the lineup, redshirt freshman Ryan Katz is the Beavs' backup quarterback behind starter Sean Canfield.
