Wu Sails Away From OSU

Patrick Wu, a 6'3" 310-pound offensive lineman from Plano, Texas is headed to Navy, BeaverFootball.com confirmed Friday.

BeaverFootball.com has learned that Patrick Wu will in fact play his collegiate football at the Naval Academy after speaking with sources close to the Navy athletic department. Wu received offers from both Oregon State and Navy, and interest from Rice, Texas Tech, and Texas A&M, but all the interest came late in the game.

"He looks like he could become a great college linemen," Max Emfinger, an Insiders Network Recruiting Expert said about Wu in early January. "But he does not have any scholarship offers and I can not understand why."

Wu and his Plano Senior High football coach, Gerald Brence, took matters into their own hands.

"What we like to do is have the players pick out schools they like and we'll send tapes to those schools," Brence told Chris Fetters after receiving an offer from Oregon State. "Well, Patrick sent one up to Oregon State and that got the ball rolling. I go way back with Coach Mazzone, and Patrick really likes Coach Mazzone and Coach Erickson."

Wu verbally committed to Oregon State after visiting on the weekend of January 17th, but changed his mind after a later visit to Navy.

Wu is an Honor Student at Plano, with a 3.5 GPA and a score of 1130 on the SAT.
