"I used to live there for a good six years, I think from when I was about two until about my second grade year," said Yruretagoyena. "We lived in Vancouver and there was the big (WSU satellite) campus there up on a big hill, right up the street from my house."
Yruretagoyena's dad is still in the Northwest -- Oregon, actually -- and the thought of being closer to him while attending college is an appealing one, he said.
"He just moved to Portland (from Vancouver) just a month or two ago," said Yruretagoyena. "I've always loved the area -- I love the cold. I like the location and the type of people there…
"I want to feel I'm at home because I'm going to be spending the next 4-5 years of my life there. I want to be on a close-knit team."
YRURETAGOYENA WAS ABLE to get out to the Arizona schools this spring, he attended junior day at UA and the 4-star prospect from Chaparral High might also attend ASU's if he can fit it into his schedule. A national type prospect, he has offers from most of the Pac-10.
"I don't much about any of the schools I'm talking to yet," said Yruretagoyena. "..But I'm coming up North at the end of May or June.
"I already have it planned to visit (Oregon State, Oregon and UW), and that's because I've been talking to them for a long time..."
Will he also swing by the other Northwest school on his trip who has offered him?
"It really depends on how those three days play out because we're going to be getting up really early all three days in order to visit all three. But I have to talk with WSU, maybe see if we can," he said.
RECRUITING IS, HOWEVER, still on the back burner for now, though he's planning on narrowing down his list to a more manageable 5-7 schools sometime probably this summer.
"I'm trying not to focus on recruiting too much right now because I'm focusing on my team," he said.
Such is not the case with the schools recruiting him.
"They've just said they love how athletic I am and that I'm a nasty player. They like how I can block the edge, have quick feet and how I can block second and third levels pretty easily. And they like that I finish all my defenders," said Yruretagoyena.
