Big Day for Lucien

THE MAY EVALUATION period is in full swing for Oregon State with spring ball now in the books. Assistant Mark Banker was in California yesterday and extended an offer to a Crespi High receiver, who was thrilled with the full ride. "They have a great program over there and Oregon State... they play like a family," he said.

Encino (Calif.) Crespi receiver Devin Lucien had been waiting patiently for a Pac-10 offer.

With two of his close friends and teammates signed to play in the Pac-10 at Oregon next year (quarterback Bryan Bennett and center Hroniss Grasu), Lucien was eager to get one from the West's premier conference.

That came on Wednesday.

"Oregon State offered me today, Coach Jay Locey offered," said Lucien.

The Beavers were one of several teams on the Crespi campus, with defensive coordinator Mark Banker stopping by the school. Locey would later deliver the news to Lucien.

"I'm so happy," said Lucien. "The hard work is paying off. They have a great program over there and Oregon State and they play like a family. I can relate, coming from an all-boy school like Crespi."

Lucien's Oregon State offer joins offers from Air Force, Illinois, Colorado and Tulsa.

Minnesota, Villanova, Boise State, and Cal were all on Crespi's campus on Wednesday.
