Top JUCO DT Cuts List to Five

GOOD D-TACKLES ARE flat out hard to find, let alone great ones. But Arizona Western star defensive tackle Jesse Williams (6-4, 340) looks to be one of them, with over 20 offers from the likes of Oregon State, Alabama, UCLA and others. The once unheralded Aussie has narrowed his considerable list of suitors down to five. Did the Beavers make the final quintet?

Indeed, they did.

Arizona Western defensive tackle Jesse Williams has gone from an unheard of Australian prospect that signed with Hawaii to one of the most sought after players in the entire nation in the 2010 class. After an impressive freshman year at AWC, one in which he was named 1st team all-conference, his list of suitors grew like wildfire.

Williams is currently back in Australia, taking a few minutes to relax before he heads back to Yuma to begin training for the 2010 season. He has spent the last week thinking about potential places he could spend the next two years and he has narrowed the list down to five.

Scout.com got an exclusive interview with Williams. Read below to see which schools made the cut, why he chose them and when he may make his commitment.

Scout.com: "How many total offers do you have?"
"Over 20."

How hard was it to narrow the list?
Williams: "Very hard, there are a lot of good schools on the list and they all have great programs"

What factors did you consider when you narrowed it?
"Depending on if they had a need for a DT like me, the effort in recruitment and the school itself such as facilities, academic programs, coaches, weather and location."

What schools made the first cut?
"In alphabetical order: Alabama, LSU, Oklahoma State, Ole Miss (Mississippi) and Oregon State."

Describe a few things about each school that made you keep them in the mix.

Alabama: "A great program and tradition, their recent success and they have great coaches who have invested their time with me and my family in the process. Coach Saban taking an active role in my recruitment also meant a lot. They have some great exposure and coaches to help progress to next level."

LSU: "Another great program with a history of success and a record of sending d-lineman to the NFL. There seems to be something powerful about being a Tiger and getting to be part of gameday in Baton Rouge. You always know that you will be surrounded by top talent."

Oklahoma State: "The Big 12 has some great competition. With an opportunity for me to get amongst it early given the depth chart for 2011, I think there is great opportunities. All the other parts that go into making a good fit – college town, facilities and a passionate coach like Coach Gundy."

Ole Miss: "Coach Nutt has the team on the up and they have had some good success over the past couple of years. I have heard great things about Oxford as a college town. They have had success with JC guys before and with their program in place I think I can make an early contribution."

Oregon State: "They have a stable coaching staff with Coach Riley and have been one of the more regular teams in contact. They have many qualities that make them attractive as a real Pac-10 contender and with some opportunities for early action at DT. I like the nice feel of Corvallis and the facilities."

When will you narrow the list again? "Now that I have got a shortlist I want to consider these programs, see if I can set up some visits and really complete all my research to make the most informed decision. After summer break I hope to be much closer to a decision."
