SoCal WR James Finley Makes His Final Decision

Former Manual Arts (Calif.) wide receiver James Finley signed with Oregon State a year ago but wasn't able to qualify. For the past few months, the talented wide out was a hot commodity and had schools from all over the country after him but he ended the process earlier today signing with...

"I'm going to Oregon," Finley told us just a few hours ago. "I signed with them this afternoon. It was a tough decision but I'm very excited about going to Oregon and I'm relieved this is over.

"I was all set to still go to Oregon State until Coach (Dennis) Erickson left. At that time, I started to look around a little and talked with Oregon, USC, Arizona State and Tennessee. USC and ASU both wanted me but because they're on the semester system, I would have missed spring practice and I didn't want to do that.

"I was hoping Oregon State would hire Tim Lappano (Beaver OC) and if they would have, I would be there right now. I really liked him a lot and he was one of the main reasons I signed with Oregon State. It's nothing against Coach (Mike) Riley but I just didn't know him that well. I loved my visit to Oregon and had a good relationship with all the coaches there. They were my second choice out of high school and I just realized that was the best place for me.

"I'm all set academically and I'll be leaving next month for Eugene and will be able to participate in Spring practice. They have some good young quarterbacks on the team and I think depth wise, I'll be able to play right away next year. They have a really nice passing offense and their facilities are unreal. I'm very happy with my decision."

Finley was our No. 2 WR in the West Coast two years ago and is a very talented player. He has good size, hands and is a very polished receiver already. He has the talent to come in and make an immediate impact for the Ducks.
