NEWS & NOTES: Riley's pre fall camp interview

CORVALLIS -- Mike Riley on Tuesday, with fall camp fast approaching on Aug. 9, sat down with writers and touched on new recruits who are good to go -- and that there are two have not yet been cleared academically -- there's a complete lack of injuries coming into fall camp, a new way of doing things this camp in an effort to combat the recent slow starts, and much more..

Riley said two players from the '10 recruiting class -- Fred Thompson and Donnell Welch -- had not been cleared as of this moment. He did, however, think there was still a possibility they might still be cleared by Monday. Stay tuned...

Thompson and Welch are the only two Beavs -- either in the recruiting class or from the returning group or players -- who have academic eligibility questions, said Riley.

In an effort to combat the slow starts of recent years, Riley is tweaking the Beavs' fall camp procedures and system -- there will be more scrimmaging and more contact this year.

Jordan Jenkins has been put on scholie.

Riley's goal is to have Keith Pankey ready to roll for the opener, and if he's healthy he will start. Riley termed him "questionable" and the Beavs figure to err on the side of caution with him in, at least, the early going of fall camp.

Oregon State had record numbers for summer conditioning, with roughly 84 players turning out, said Riley.

BF.C will have more in our full report a little later on today..
