Oregon "On Top" For Sauls

El Cajon (CA) Christian Junior Senior linebacker Tyrone Sauls may be underrated, though the Oregon coaching staff has seen enough from the strong, rugged two-star athlete to offer a scholarship. Though Sauls plans to wait till the moment is right to commit, he admits that the University of Oregon is the clear leader for his services at this point.

Do you currently have an offer from Oregon?

"Yes I do."

What kind of contact have you had with Oregon throughout the recruiting process?

"I've been talking to linebackers coach Don Pellum every week and another coach came to the school last week."

Do you remember which coach came to your school?

"John Neal."

What is your overall interest in Oregon at this point?

"Oh it's very high. It's at the top of my list."

What is it about the school that has captured your interest?

"Well first of all the football program and second of all their school for sciences. I know they have a really good school of architecture and I think my major would be mechanical engineering or some where in the sciences. They're a strong school."

Do you have a timetable for when you'd like to make a decision or anything like that?

"No, not at this time. It's just as soon as I feel it's the right time. That's when I'll make my decision."

How would describe yourself as a player?

"When I'm on the field, I'm the kind of guy that's going to look for contact and not try and avoid it. This year I've been playing a little bit more running back, so I've been trying to learn to avoid contact instead of trying to run people over every single play."

Is Oregon looking at you at linebacker or running back?

"They say linebacker."

Is there anyone at the collegiate or professional level that you try to pattern your game after?

"On the offensive side of the ball, I try to run like (Brandon) Jacobs for the Giants. On the defensive side, I've been looking at Ray Lewis and his keys and reads. The guy who first got me interested in linebacker was Junior Seau when he was playing for the Chargers."

What are you looking in a program?

"The biggest thing for me is the overall feel of the program. It shouldn't always be about the focus on football and nothing on the classroom. That's why I'm really focused on trying to get up to Oregon because something could really look good on paper, but when you get there it could have the completely wrong feel to it. That's why I want to see the coaches and players up there and see if I'll be able to mesh with them also."

Have you talked with the coaching staff about setting up an official visit to Oregon?

"No, we haven't been able to schedule one that fits both of our schedules."

Have you made any decisions on what you want to study when you get to college?

"Honestly I haven't done any work in engineering, so I don't really know what to expect...I'm trying to get an internship for maybe later this year, but it'll probably be something in sciences."

What are some of the offers you have from other schools?

"I have official offers from Air Force, Cal Poly, and pretty soon from Washington."
