EUGENE – The impending 114th renewal of next month's Oregon-Oregon State football rivalry will serve as the backdrop for several causes that will benefit Ducks and Beavers alike, in addition to non sports fans.
The American Red Cross, Lane Memorial Blood Bank, the Oregon State University Alumni Association and the University of Oregon Alumni Association are currently in the midst of a statewide campaign to increase community blood donations that will culminate on Saturday, Nov. 20.
This is the ninth consecutive year of the award-winning partnership. Fans, students and alumni of both universities are encouraged to donate on behalf of their team at any American Red Cross or Lane Memorial Blood Bank blood drive in Oregon. The university with the most submitted ballots will be announced prior to the Dec. 4 Civil War game in Corvallis.
This friendly competition between both state universities brings fans and alumni throughout Oregon to local blood drives and helps raise the awareness of the constant need for blood across our region.
All presenting donors are eligible to enter a drawing for two tickets to the Civil War football game. The drawing will be held on Tuesday, November 23. The winner will be notified by phone or email as listed on the raffle

In addition, the rivalry can benefit the fight against hunger through the Oregon Food Bank Network. The "Civil War Food Battle" is encouraging Oregon and Oregon State supporters to help raise money that will be distributed to food banks throughout the state.
"We are teaming up to create a mobile text drive that will reach participants state-wide and encourage football fans to text a $5.00 or $10.00 donation to help feed our hungry neighbors," says Darrel Kau, FOOD For Lane County Development Director. "With the sobering truth that Oregon is the second hungriest state in the nation, the opportunity to rally together around the Civil War game to raise money for all 20 food banks in the state is fantastic."
Texting GoDucks5 or GoBeavs5 to 20222 will result in a $5.00 donation. Texting GoDucks10 or GoBeavs10 to 20222 will provide a $10.00 donation. The one-time donation will be added to your monthly cell phone bill.
