Scrappy Ducks Knock Off Beavers

On paper the Oregon State Beavers should had no problems with the undermanned Oregon Ducks. However, Dana Altman must not believe in what papers say as his team notched its first road win in Pac-10 competition by beating Oregon State 63-59 at Gill Coliseum in Corvallis.

E.J. Singler led the way for the Oregon Ducks with 16 points while Jay-R Strowbridge added 13 of his 15 points in the second half. It was the fifth time this season that Singler has led Oregon in scoring and he has been the top Duck scorer in all conference games so far this season.

Strowbridge made two free throws with eight seconds remaining to ensure the win for Oregon (9-10, 2-5 Pac-10.),

At one point in the first half the Ducks opened up a 17-point lead, but the Beavers staged a furious comeback just before half time to cut the advantage to 9.

Roberto Nelson had 11 points and Jared Cunningham nine for the Beavers.

Oregon shot 24 of 48 from the floor, including 9 of 23 from 3-point range. Oregon State was 20 of 52 overall.

- Despite Oregon State's recent success over Oregon, the Ducks have won the lion share of games (.714, 30-12) against their rival dating back to the 1991-92 season (last 20 seasons including this year).

- The last time Oregon won in Corvallis was back on March 2, 2008. In that game, Maarty Leunen scored a team-best 32 points in leading UO to the 80-68 victory. Joevan Catron was the only current Duck to play in that game.

- Garrett Sim (15 points) reached double figures in scoring for the third time in the last five games. His point-total matched a season best.

- Jay-R Strowbridge (15 points) reached double figures in scoring for the first time since UO's Dec. 11 win over Willamette. It was the fifth time he has scored 10 or more points in a game this season (first during Pac-10 play).

- Three UO players accounted for the majority of their first-half scoring. Garrett Sim (10), Joevan Catron (8) and E.J. Singler (6) tallied 24 of the Ducks' 33 points (72.7 percent of the team's scoring load). Nine players saw action in the first 20 minutes.

- The Ducks posted a 25-5 run in the first half to take a commanding 33-16 advantage with 3:34 on the clock. OSU went scoreless (stuck on 16 points) for just under four minutes during that stretch.

- The Ducks used their ninth different starting lineup (G-Garrett Sim, G-Johntahan Loyd, F-E.J. Singler, F-Tyrone Nared and F-Joevan Catron). It was Nared's first start as a Duck.
