Davis Hopes To Visit Oregon During Summer

Before suffering a knee injury that sidelined him for much of the 2010 season, Houston (TX) Klein Forest four-star quarterback Matt Davis was widely regarded as one of the top dual-threat signal callers in the Lone Star State in the Class of 2012. Now healthy, Davis sports a number of big offers and could be making plans to visit Eugene sometime this summer.

What is your overall interest in Oregon?

"I'm definitely interested in Oregon. That's a perfect fit for my type of style that I'm playing right now. They have a great atmosphere and a great program, so I'm definitely interested in them."

How would you describe yourself as a player?

"I think I would describe myself as a leader...someone who likes to control things. I take pride in knowing what everyone has to do on the field. Beyond football, I just consider myself a leader."

Is there a player at the collegiate or professional level that you try to pattern your game after?

"I definitely like the way that Cam (Newton) played this year. I love the swagger of Cam that he had this year. I know he only played one year but that is definitely somebody that a lot of my friends tell me that I have his type of personality -- not necessarily on the field, but I'm always walking around with a smile on my face and always keeping things fun. I definitely think I take after Cam."

What are you looking for in a program?

"I'm big on facilities and stuff like that. Anywhere you go, they're gonna have nice facilities, but (the colleges) are gonna have stuff that you don't see at your high school. Coaching is also one of the biggest things for me; I wanna have a great coaching staff of people who are gonna mold me to be a better player and better person overall. I want to play for a national championship and I want somewhere where I can be comfortable. I would say those are the three biggest factors."

Have you given any thought as to what you'd like to study when you get to college?

"I like Criminal Justice stuff. I'd like being a detective and figuring out crime and problems. I watch Law and Order every night. I like that and Kinesiology. I like learning about muscles and stuff."

What are some of the offers that you currently have from other schools?

"I have Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, TCU, Baylor, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Tulsa, Tulane, I think I have one from Georgia, Arizona, Iowa, Iowa State...I don't know, I don't wanna leave anybody out."

Is distance a factor for you at all?

"Distance, it's a factor for me, but it's not at the same time. Wherever I'm gonna go, that's where I'm gonna go. Of course it's gonna be on my mind, but it's not gonna prevent me from going where I want to go. I'd love to have my parents see every game I go to. I'd love to come back from school and see my mom...but with some schools, that just isn't gonna happen, so it's really not going to affect me, but it's definitely something I think about."

Do you have a top group of schools that you're really thinking about the most?

"I'm wide open, but I haven't visited every school yet. I've only visited about seven schools maybe and a few of them I like from when I visited. I liked A&M, I liked Auburn, I liked Oklahoma State too. I'm supposed to be visiting Oregon this summer, so I'm definitely hyped for that."

Have you set up anything as far as a concrete date to visit Oregon during the summer?

"I haven't set up a specific date, but I'm definitely trying 100 percent to come up there. I think it's almost certain, I just gotta find out the days and stuff like that. If I could, I may try to come up there by spring practice. That may be tougher because of school and stuff like that, but I'm definitely trying to get there during the summer."

What's your schedule looking like for the next few months?

"Honestly, I don't think I'll be going to any camps or combines anymore. Coming off my (knee) injury, before I couldn't really perform. I'm fine now, I'm basically 100 percent. I'm going to the Nike Elite 11 camp I think, but I don't think I'm going to anymore Junior Days because I plan on enrolling early in my school. I'm just gonna go on personal visits and try to get a personal feel with the coaches and one-on-one talk and see how they work and see how they fit in my plans for me. I love visiting schools and stuff, but I'm kind of on a shorter timeline now."
