Ducks Fight But Lose to Wildcats

Oregon senior center/forward Joevan Catron ended his regular season career for the Oregon Ducks with a bang by scoring a career high 28 points before fouling, but helped Oregon make a very competitive game with Arizona. The Wildcats held on to overcome the pesky Ducks, 90-82 in a game played at Tucson. Arizona became the Pac-10 Championship with the win over Oregon.

Arizona (25-6, 14-4) shot the lights out especially beyond the three-point line by hitting 11-of-25 of the long range bombs and had an overall 56 percent field goal (28-for-50) shooting touch for the game.

Despite being down as much as 17 point in the second half, Oregon battled back and had cut the lead to six with with about five and half minutes left in the contest. Catron was nearly unstoppable especially in the second half with his inside and outside shooting going 9-for-15 including four 3-point shots. He also had four rebounds and two assists.

Garrett Sim tallied 14 points while Malcolm Armstead added 12.

Kyle Fogg led Arizona scoring with 20. Solomon Hill and Derrick Williams each had 14 with Jamelle Horne putting in 10.

Arizona finishes the regular season with a 25-6 (14-4) record while Oregon, who many felt would not win a game in Pac-10 competition was 14-16 (7-11) for first-year coach Dana Altman.

Next up is the Pac-10 Tournament in Los Angeles starting Wednesday with the Ducks taking on Arizona State in the first round.


- Joevan Catron, who scored a career-high 28 points against UA, eclipsed the 1,000 career point mark (becoming the 30th player in school history to do so). He has 1,007 points in 124 games at UO.

- It was the 16th time this season that Catron led the team in scoring (19th time of his career). Catron has now scored 20 or more points on eight occasions this season (nine times in his career).

- Catron also matched career-bests with nine field goals made and 15 field goals attempted.

- Malcolm Armstead (12 pts, 11 assists) recorded his first career double-double at Oregon. He is the only UO player to register the double-double this season with points and assists. His 11 assists is the second most he's produced this season. Armstead's season- and career-high: 13 vs. Oregon State on Feb. 19.

- Armstead (two steals) moved into sixth place all-time for career steals at UO (now with 128 steals in 61 games). He moved by Aaron Brooks who recorded 127 steals in 115 career games.

- The Ducks dropped to 2-15 overall when they shoot for a worse percentage than the opponent. UO is now 4-12 on the season when out-rebounded, and 3-12 overall when trailing at the half.
