With NW Roots, Vaitai Is Open To Oregon

Separating yourself from a family of football players can be difficult, but Haltom City (TX) four-star offensive lineman Halapoulivaati Vaitai has done exactly that. Though he's a raw athlete who still needs to fill out, Vaitai has heard from schools scattered across the United States.

Do you currently have an offer from Oregon?

"I do not. No."

What, if any, contact have you had with Oregon since the recruiting process started for you?

"I never talked to any coaches or anybody."

Have you been receiving mail from Oregon?

"Yes, I have."

How often would you say that you receive mail from Oregon?

"I'd say often...every time I check my mail, I see Oregon."

What is your overall interest in Oregon at this point?

"My interest for Oregon is pretty high. I like Oregon."

Is there anything in particular that stands out to you about them?

"I like the football team and I have relatives that live down there."

How would you describe yourself as a player?

"I'm 6'6'' and I think I weigh 255 lbs. I'm tall, but I'm not fat like other guys. I can't get fat. I have the size of a tight end or a defensive end."

Is there anyone at the collegiate or professional level that you try to pattern your game after?


What are you looking for in a program?

"I'm looking for a school to see if I like it or not."

Have you given any thought as to what you might want to study once you get to college?

"I want to study criminal justice."

What offers do you currently hold from other schools?

"I have a couple offers from the Big 12, from the SEC, I have a few from the Pac-10/12...I got offers from TCU, Texas Tech, Baylor, Houston, Arkansas, Arizona, Kansas State, and I think that's it. I forget."

Is distance a factor for you at all?

"I just want to go wherever."

Do you have any schools that are leading at this point?

"I have a top three right now. It's Texas Tech, TCU, and Baylor."

Do you have any plans to go to any camps? Junior Days? Unofficial visits?

"I just recently went to Baylor's Junior Day and I went to TCU's and Texas Tech's."

Do you have a timetable for when you would like to have a decision made?

"I'm thinking I'll make my decision next season, but after the season. Probably around National Signing Day."
