Valentine Has Heart Set On Oregon Offer

Depth at defensive tackle has been perceived as a major need for Oregon head coach Chip Kelly and the Ducks essentially since Kelly took over prior to the 2009 season. In Edwardsville (IL) four-star defensive tackle Vincent Valentine, the Ducks have a talented target who has been a fan since childhood.

Do you currently have an offer from Oregon?

"No I don't."

What, if any, contact have you had with Oregon since the recruiting process started for you?

"I haven't really had any contact. They send mail to me everyday, but I haven't had any direct contact with coaches or anything."

What is your overall interest in Oregon?

"Oh I have a great interest in Oregon. They were one of my favorite childhood teams and I really like Oregon."

Is there anything about the program in particular that stands out to you about them?

"They've just been bringing winning tradition lately. They just started winning and they're still a good look and I just really like their facilities, in general. I know they have great facilities and I know they just built some new facilities and so I just like everything about them."

How would you describe yourself as a player?

"I'd describe myself as a very good run-stopper. I like to get after it. I like to consider myself a good all-around player, but I think I'm more of a run-stopper than anything."

Is there a guy at the collegiate or professional level that you try to pattern your game after?

"Yeah, I try to play like Ndamukong Suh."

What are you looking for in a program?

"I'm looking for a great coach that can get me to the next level, I'm looking for great academics, I'm looking for a great tradition -- how much winning have they been doing lately? I'm looking at how their depth chart is looking. I want early playing time by at least my sophomore year and if I don't redshirt, then my freshman year. I just want to be able to bond with the players once I make my visit to the schools in my top five. I want to be able to bond with those players and see myself playing with them."

Do you know what you might want to study once you get to college?

"I'm thinking about psychology or sociology."

What are some of the offers that you have from other schools?

"I have 16. I have Kansas, Kansas State, Illinois, Missouri, Oklahoma, Alabama, Auburn, Nebraska, Purdue, Michigan, Indiana, Penn State, Florida...I'm not really sure from there."

Do you have a leader out of the schools that have offered or schools that you've been hearing from?

"No. I'll have a top five or top ten here once I narrow everything down."

Do you have any plans to go to any camps? Junior Days? Unofficial visits?

"Not yet. I don't have anything planned here yet. I'm not sure, but I'll probably do some things in the summer but not the spring since I have track."
