Dillon Hoping To Get Oregon Offer Soon

Tall, lanky, and unassuming, El Cajon (CA) Christian Junior Sr. three-star quarterback Shane Dillon doesn't necessarily strike fear in to the hearts of his opposition during pre-game warmups. That, however, is usually the first of many mistakes for his competition, as Dillon ranks among the top quarterbacks in the entire country. eDuck sat down with Dillon to get the latest in his recruitment.

Do you currently have an offer from Oregon?

"I don't, but I've been really hoping I'd get one soon."

What kind of contact have you had with Oregon since the recruiting process started for you?

"One of my really good friends is Erik Magnuson and he has been talking to me a lot about Oregon. He's gonna give me the phone number of some coaches soon and I'm gonna give them a call and see how things are with them because they've sent me a couple of letters here and there and messages on Facebook and stuff. They actually came to my school during football season in the fall and they watched me work out a little bit."

Have you had any contact with any coaches from Oregon?

"The quarterbacks coach (Mark Helfrich) came down and watched me."

How often would you say that you're in contact with Oregon?

"Definitely every week. Probably every other day, two days, three days I get a letter from them."

Are the letters just information about the school and things like that?

"Yeah, it's all kinds of stuff. During football season it was invites to games. Now it's like stuff on the school and spring practices and stuff like that."

Have you made an unofficial visit to Oregon in the past?

"I haven't, but I keep hearing it's CRAZY...I'm actually going up there this summer with my coach to take a tour of the school though. I don't know the date yet."

What is your overall interest in Oregon at this point?

"Oh, I'm definitely interested in Oregon. Anyone that is fully sponsored by Nike and gets all that sick gear and everything is definitely gonna attract some interest, but not just that. The facilities are insane and everything is just crisp and I'm definitely interested in them a lot...(Oregon) is close to best in the country right now with them going to the national championship game last year. It's definitely interesting."

How would you describe yourself as a player?

"I'm a pro-style quarterback, I like to drop back from under center or roll a little bit out of the 'gun if I have to. I like throwing on the run but I'm more of a pocket passer slinging it around the field."

Is there a guy at the collegiate or professional level that you try to pattern your game after?

"Drew Brees, even though I'm a little bit taller than him. Attitude wise and accuracy wise, he's the man. Him and Philip Rivers."

What are you looking for in a program?

"A school that is definitely a big time football school that I can go in there and hopefully win a national championship with. Somewhere that's going to fit my personality and that I can go in there and fit to the school where I'm not gonna dislike it at all or want to transfer. A school that isn't just football, but has good academics too where I can get my degree. Somewhere that's just a good environment that has a lot of things that I would like...definitely a campus where the fans are supportive of the school and the teams. I wouldn't want to go somewhere that isn't like that. I want to go to a football town."

Have you given any thought as to what you might want to study when you get to college?

"Yeah. If I don't end up playing football, I either want to become a firefighter or a sports broadcaster. If I want to be a sports broadcaster, it would either be communications or something like that and for firefighting, it would be something in medicine and stuff like that."

What are some of the offers you have right now from other schools?

"Ohio State, Cincinnati, Arizona, Vanderbilt, Florida State and that's pretty much it."

Do you have a top list of schools out of the schools that have offered or that you've been hearing from?

"Definitely USC, definitely Ohio State, Oregon, Stanford, and probably Miami...that's in no particular order. I have no idea."

Do you have any plans to go to any camps? Junior Days? Unofficial visits?

"When we go up to Oregon, that'll be a school we'll stop at on our tour that we do with my coach -- we do one every summer, that's how I got my offers from Ohio State and Cincinnati -- and we're gonna take another one this summer and it'll be like a 15 college tour in like 10 or 12 days or something like that. So I'll get to see a lot of schools on the West Coast, some in the Central like Texas and stuff like that. I'm really excited about that, that'll be fun."
