Salem's Espitia Hoping To Catch Oregon Offer

A well-rounded athlete with the ability to play on either side of the ball in college, Salem (OR) South Salem three-star athlete Junior Espitia says that an Oregon offer would be more or less a dream come true.

Do you currently have an offer from Oregon?

"No I do not."

What kind of contact, if any, have you had with Oregon since the recruiting process started for you?

"I have talked to two coaches: Mr. (Jim) Fisher and Mr. (Steve) Greatwood."

What kinds of things have you and the coaching staff at Oregon discussed?

"Just that they have interest in me. They said that they weren't really sure where to play me or where I would fit in their scheme or program. It wasn't a big discussion. It was probably like 5 minutes."

How often would you say that you're in contact with Oregon?

"I used to be in contact with them weekly, but I haven't talked to them in probably two months."

What is your overall interest in Oregon at this point?

"It's high (laughter). I would love to go to Oregon. It would probably be in my top three if I could pick any school. I would love to go there and I would do anything to go there."

What would you say your top three is?

"It would be USC, Oregon and UCLA."

What is it about Oregon that stands out to you?

"I really love the fast-paced, on-the-ball (offense). I just like to get going on the ball and I'm just a real big fan of the fast-paced game."

How would you describe yourself as a player?

"I'd probably describe myself as probably able to play any position, except maybe the line. I've played more than four positions. I can move pretty easily and I'm a pretty big kid -- I'm 6'2'', 215 lbs. I can catch the ball, run the ball and hit people...not to be cocky or anything, but I can seem to do a lot more than one specific position."

In your discussions with the Oregon coaches, have they specified which position they would like you at?

"They didn't really say too much. One thing they did say was safety or a slot receiver."

Do you have a preference as far as what you'd like to play?

"Oh no. Not at all."

Is there anyone at the collegiate or professional level that you try to pattern your game after?

"I'm not really sure at the moment. I was actually just watching TV the other day and the guy from Stanford (Owen Marecic) -- the running back and middle linebacker -- is someone I like."

What are you looking for in a program?

"I would like to be somewhere where I would play a decent amount. I'm also interested in the weather, where the school is and what they have to offer. The school is a big part for me. The coaching staff too -- just making sure I feel welcomed and that it's a place I would want (to be) the next four years."

Have you taken any unofficial visits to Oregon in the past?

"Yeah, I've taken two unofficial was when they played Washington (last season) and the last time was probably a month before that."

Have you given any thought as to what you might want to study when you get to the next level?

"I'm pretty interested in business or animal behavior."

What offers do you currently hold from other schools?

"I have offers from Portland State and Idaho."

Have you been hearing from other schools who you think might be close to offering?

"Yeah Oregon State, Stanford, Air Force and Cal was through here."

As far as unofficial visits and camps go, do you plan on attending any?

"I'm going to Stanford for sure, USC, Oregon State, hopefully Oregon and Idaho and also Boise State."
