Thurston To Make College Choice This Summer

In a year where the Western region of the United States is stacked with quality offensive linemen, Arvada (CO) Arvada West four-star offensive lineman Paul Thurston is one of the best. With plenty of offers to chose from, Thurston plans on picking his school this summer.

Do you currently have an offer from Oregon?

What kind of contact have you had with Oregon since the recruiting process started for you?

"I talk to them pretty much every week, or every other week, I've gone out there and seen everybody, so I've definitely had a lot of contact with them."

When did you take your unofficial visit to Oregon?

"It was for the spring game."

Describe your overall experience during your visit.

"When I was out there, I got a tour around campus, I got to meet with some academic people, I got to meet the strength coach (Jim Radcliffe), the nutritionist (James Harris) and then we got to go to the spring game and watch that. It was a lot of fun to talk to the coaches and it was a lot of fun being able to meet those guys, so I had a great time out there."

Who's been your main recruiter throughout the process?

"Steve Greatwood, the offensive line coach."

What is your overall interest in Oregon at this point?

"It's definitely high. I'm looking at other schools and everything, so I haven't made a list or anything, but they're definitely high up there and I definitely like Oregon."

Do you have a timetable for when you'd like to ultimately make a decision?

"I'll probably be making it in July/August or sometime in there. I'm gonna try and take another visit here or two and after I'll make a list and narrow it and probably make a decision in July or August."

Where have you been and where do you plan on going before making that decision?

"I've been to Oregon, Nebraska, Michigan, Notre Dame and I don't know exactly where else I'll be going, but I'll see what else happens here in May."

What is it about Oregon that stands out to you?

"Just the coaches there. They've really changed it around. They've made it a great program. I like the coaches, I like the way they coach, I like Greatwood and talking with him because he's a great guy and all that stuff...I definitely like it."

Did you get a chance to interact with any of the other recruits who were in town for the spring game?

"Not really. I met a couple, but I didn't really talk."

How would you describe yourself as a player?

"I'd describe myself as a quick, agile player who's nasty, loves playing the game, loves getting after it and making plays happen."

Is there a player at the collegiate or professional level that you try to pattern your game after?

"No, not really no. I just play."

What are you looking for in a program?

"Probably I'd say the coaching staff -- how long they're gonna be there, do I like the way they coach -- the weight program -- is it a place I could see myself getting strong and ready to compete at the next level -- and then it's academics -- do they have my degree, do they have what I'm looking for. Those are a couple of the things that I'm looking at."

What are you looking to study when you get to college?

What are some of the offers that you currently hold from other schools?

"Nebraska, Michigan, Notre Dame, Stanford, Cal, Arkansas, Colorado, Utah, Arizona, Arizona State, Kansas, Kansas State and I think that's the majority of them...Northwestern...I think that's pretty much it."

You said you don't really have any plans as far as unofficial visits go, but do you have any plans to attend any camps?

"No, nothing right now. Like I said, I'll probably take one or two more visits, but that's pretty much it."
