Lunt Biding His Time

A tall, lanky quarterback with a pocket passer's mentality, Rochester (IL) three-star quarterback Wes Lunt isn't necessarily the prototypical signal-caller in Oregon's offense. Yet, Lunt was paid a visit by a member of the Oregon coaching staff during the spring, leaving one to wonder just how serious the interest is between the two parties.

Do you currently have an offer from Oregon?

"No I do not. They came to my school late in May to watch me throw. Coach (Derek) Leonard has talked to them a couple of times and I've talked to them one time, so I haven't really been recruited by them that much lately and I haven't really heard from them in a week or two."

Do you remember the coach that came out in the spring to evaluate you?

"The offensive coordinator (Mark Helfrich)."

Prior to his visit in the spring, had you had any contact with him or anyone else from Oregon?

"No, I had not."

And you haven't heard from them since, correct?

"No I have not."

What is your overall interest in Oregon at this point?

"I'm still open. I've narrowed it down a little bit, but I haven't narrowed it down completely. I'm still open to new schools. I've started to narrow it down because kids are starting to commit and I want to go where I want to go and not have just one school left, so I am narrowing down but I'm still open to new schools."

Who is in your "narrowed down" list of schools?

"I don't really have a list, I'm just kind of narrowing it down in my head and talking to my parents (about it) at night."

Who are the schools that are standing out to you so far in the recruiting process?

"A couple of my schools have already taken a quarterback in Michigan State and Wisconsin, so obviously, they wouldn't be on me. I think the schools that are really standing out are the schools that haven't taken a quarterback and all those schools are schools I've been keeping in touch with on a weekly basis."

How would you describe yourself as a player?

"I'm definitely a big kid; a pro-style guy. I think I have a pretty good arm and pretty accurate, but that being said, I got a lot to work on. I gotta have better footwork, speed, reading defenses better and making better decisions."

Is there a guy at the collegiate or professional level that you try to pattern your game after?

"I really like Peyton Manning, Tom Brady and Drew Brees, of course, but being from Illinois, I really like Sam Bradford for the St. Louis Rams. I really like him a lot."

What are you looking for in a program?

"Someone that has a good business school...I'm really thinking I want to go in to business. Coaches are probably the biggest thing; building relationships with coaches and going from there and getting to know the people who I'm gonna be with on an everyday basis. After that, it's probably football, the style of offense that fits me the best."

What are some of the current offers that you hold from other schools right now?

"Illinois, Oklahoma State, Louisville, Vanderbilt, Boston College, Cincinnati, Virginia and I think those are it."

As far as camps and unofficial visits go, where have you been and what are your plans this summer?

"I've been everywhere that's offered me, expect for Virginia and Cincinnati. I don't really have any visits set up for the summer and I'm not going to any one-day camps at any schools."
