Singleton Unsure Of His Oregon Offer

A big, physical presence in the back end of a defense, Jersey City (NJ) St. Peter's Prep four-star safety D.J. Singleton says it's his confidence that separates him from all the rest. With a number of offers from schools on the East Coast, Singleton says he's intrigued by the prospect of playing for schools out West.

Do you currently have an offer from Oregon?

"I don't know. I might. I'm not too sure about that, I'm gonna have to check with my coach and see if I have an offer from them."

What kind of contact have you had with Oregon since the recruiting process started for you?

"I've spoken to coach (John) Neal -- he's the defensive backs coach -- and Chip Kelly's been sending me e-mails everyday, so I've been in contact with those two coaches."

When was the last time you had some contact with coach Neal?

"Actually, I didn't speak to him personally. My father talked to coach Neal and that was about a few weeks ago."

Did any members of the Oregon coaching staff come to your school during the spring to evaluate you?

"Yes. Actually, they came out a few weeks ago and came to one of our practices when we were just throwing the ball around and they were evaluating and everything."

What is your overall interest in Oregon at this point?

"I'm very interested in Oregon. I'm open to any college that's given me an offer. I'm very interested in Oregon."

Is there something in particular about the program that stands out to you when you consider them as a potential option?

"Well, everyone in New Jersey doesn't expect you to go out West. It's very interesting when you watch them play and the area is very interesting, so that's most likely what puts them in my top (list)."

Is distance a factor for you?

"It's a family decision, but it is my decision at the end of the day. I wouldn't say it's a factor, the distance. I'll play anywhere."

Have you made any plans to take an unofficial visit to Oregon or anything like that?

"Me and my dad, we've spoken about it, but we don't know yet. We're not sure about going out there yet. We're just taking our time."

How would you describe yourself as a player?

"Mostly, as a player, I'm a very confident player. I use my assets that I have against other teams and I have believe I have a step over other teams."

Is there a guy at the collegiate or professional level that you try to pattern your game after?

"Actually, I watch Eric Berry a lot. I like how he trains and everything, so I would say him."

What are you looking for in a program?

"Well the most important thing is me being comfortable in that environment and another thing is that I want to be able to play all four years at that program and have that coaching staff be there all four of my years at college. I would say academics also. Academics is number one; that's the MAIN thing. Those (are the things that) will help what I'm looking for in a program."

Have you given any thought as to what you want to study in college?

"I would like to major in sports medicine."

What are some of the offers that you currently hold from other schools?

"I have Purdue, Illinois, UConn, North Carolina, Rutgers, Syracuse, Miami, Temple, Nebraska, Wisconsin and a few others. Those are my offers."

Do you have a top five or a list of favorites out of the schools that you've been in contact with?

"No, I don't have a top five right now."

As far as camps and unofficial visits go, where have you been and where do you plan on going this summer?

"As far as unofficial visits, maybe this summer I'll take a visit to Illinois, Michigan State, and Indiana and probably Purdue."
