Lockie Will Camp In Eugene Next Week

Unknown to many casual recruiting followers, Danville (CA) Monte Vista quarterback has made quite a name for himself for those who have monitored his development closely. Unranked and unrated by Scout.com, Lockie holds a scholarship offer from only one FBS program, though could add to that total with a breakthrough performance next week in Eugene.

Do you currently have an offer from Oregon?

"I do not."

What kind of contact have you had with Oregon since the recruiting process started for you?

"Coach (Mark) Helfrich came down to the school to watch spring practice and we've been communicating probably once or twice a week over the phone and through e-mail. I plan on going out there next Wednesday for a day of camp."

In your conversations with coach Helfrich, has he discussed the possibility of an offer coming for you?

"Yeah we talked about that. Basically, he said they're taking two guys and they have one. He wants me to come down to camp so I can throw in front of coach (Chip) Kelly and the rest of the staff and maybe earn a scholarship there or work hard and see what happens."

What is your overall interest in Oregon right now?

"I have good interest in Oregon just because of the tradition of great success. Actually, my brother is a freshman at Oregon and I've been up there a couple of times visiting him. In the offseason, I've been working out with Jeff Maehl, who (was) a receiver from Oregon that you probably know, so I have pretty good ties to Oregon and I'm definitely interested."

How would you describe yourself as a player?

"I play in a pro-style offense, but I wouldn't say I'm a straight drop back quarterback. I'm definitely pretty athletic -- I think that's a big part of my game -- and I think that will really help and translate to a spread (offense) or a pro-style or whatever I end up choosing."

Is there a guy at the collegiate or professional level that you try to pattern your game after?

"That's tough...I'd probably have to say that I like people like Matt Ryan, who can take off and make plays on their feet, as well as drop back and do things like that. Donovan McNabb a little too."

What are you looking for in a program?

"Definitely I think about education. That's a big part of my decision. I really want to go to a school with good education, coaching staff -- What's my relationship with them? -- and then location of the school -- Where is it at in the country? Is the city near? It's stuff like that. Education, coaching staff and location/fit."

Have you given any thought as to what you might want to study when you get to college?

"Something in business. I haven't narrowed it down yet, but something in business."

What offers do you currently hold from other schools?

"Currently, I'm holding an offer from San Diego State and I'm waiting to hear back from coach (Mike) Riley (at Oregon State) and a bunch of other schools."

Who are some of the other schools that you've been hearing a lot from?

"Oregon State, Northwestern, Maryland and USC...I went down there yesterday."

Of the schools that you've been hearing from, do you have a top five or a list of favorites at this point?

"No, not too much right now. I'm just this summer trying to get out and see as many schools as I can and then, at the end of that, I can really get a feel for what school offers what and what they have to offer and I can really put a list of schools together with my family."

As far as camps and unofficial visits go, where have you been and where do you plan on going this summer?

"I've been to Oregon State and USC and then I plan on going to Maryland, Oregon next week, Northwestern and UCLA possibly...we're trying to figure everything out."

Do you have a timetable for when you would ideally like to have a decision made?

"Ideally, you want to (decide) before your senior year so you can focus on high school, but if it doesn't work and we play it through the year, then that's what it is. It's no rush."
