Allen Spills Details of In-Home Visit with UO

Despite having already given his verbal commitment to Oklahoma State, Missouri City (TX) Lawrence E. Elkins three-star wide receiver Chance Allen hosted Oregon head coach Chip Kelly and two assistants at his home Monday evening. eDuck caught up with Allen, who discussed the details of Kelly's visit and if the coach answered questions about his near departure to the NFL.

Did you recently host Oregon head coach Chip Kelly for an in-home visit?

"Yes sir...Monday night."

If you can, describe the in-home visit as a whole.

"Everything went well. He came in, the offensive coordinator [Mark Helfrich] came in, coach [Scott] Frost -- my [prospective] position coach -- came in and they talked to my parents and my family and everything. [Coach Kelly] was saying that [Oregon] need you [in Eugene] and he talked about the Oregon program and how I can fit into their system. Everything just went well."

About how long were the Oregon coaches visiting you for?

"About and hour and half, maybe two hours, hour and 45 minutes...We just had a good time talking and having fun mostly."

What did discuss with you, as far as your potential role on the team and what they see you providing?

"Mostly just stretching the field and using the body I have to go up and make big plays down the field and in the endzone, of course. Mostly just my physicality and blocking for the running backs, like De'Anthony Thomas...Just making big plays for the team down the field and beating everyone one-on-one."

Was there a specific moment during the in-home visit that stood out to you in particular?

"Mostly it was how they were telling me they were playing eight true freshmen last year on the team. They said I could come in and do my work and I could start right off the bat because they've never had a receiver weighing 200 lbs. coming in in their system, expect for L.T. (Lavasier Tuinei), who just graduated. They said I have a lot to bring to the table this year."

Over the weekend was the buzz that coach Kelly was taking the Tampa Bay head coaching position. Did he discuss that with you? Did you or you family have any questions for him regarding that?

"Oh, yes sir. We definitely asked those questions. He told us the God's honest truth about it and everything; that he turned [the job offer] down. He just wanted to make sure I believe Oregon is the program and everything. He told us every 12 wins a year, he gets his contract extended, so it's going to be good. He said he's going to stay quite awhile, so we'll see where it goes from that."

You're planning on taking an official visit to Oregon this weekend, is that right?

"Yes sir."

Do you have any more in-home visits scheduled between now and when you leave for your official visit to Eugene this weekend?

"No sir. Oregon is going to be my last option. It depends on how everything goes this weekend if I'm going to switch over and be a Duck. We'll see."
