Ducks Like Hicks As A Running Back

Though he's blessed with the ability to play on either offense or the defensive backfield, Arlington (TX) Martin running back Kyle Hicks says most schools -- including Oregon -- like him as a running back.

Do you currently have an offer from Oregon?

"No sir, I don't."

What, if any, contact have you had with Oregon since the recruiting process started for you?

"I talked to the running back coach [Gary Campbell]. He came down here and I talked to him. That was about three or four weeks ago."

Was that the only time you spoke with him, or have you spoke with coach Campbell multiple times?

"Actually, he came down during the season, so I had talked to him before."

Was he down there visiting the Eric and Stephen Amoako?

"No, he told me he came to see me, so (laughter)...I don't know if he was seeing the Amoako twins or not."

Have the Amoako twins been in your ear at all about Oregon?

"Yeah, they talk to me about Oregon. They're always telling me how I'd like it and how it'd be a good fit and how they've got real nice facilities, so they've talked to me about it before."

Is Oregon evaluating you at running back, defensive back, or just as an athlete?

"They're looking at me as a running back."

Is that something you're comfortable with, or do you even have a preference for which side of the ball you play on?

"I like playing running back more."

When coach Campbell visited you, what kinds of things did the two of you discuss?

"When he did come, he just told me that they're really interested and stuff and he was letting me know, playing time-wise, about how LaMichael James is leaving and Kenjon [Barner will be gone], so when I get there, I should be able to battle for time on the field and stuff like that. That's basically what we talked about."

What is your overall interest in Oregon as a program?

"I really like them, I definitely like them...I like the uniforms, and when I talked to the running back coach, he seemed pretty cool. It looks like a nice it's really nice."

How would you describe yourself as a player?

"I'd describe myself as a smooth runner. I've got good ball carrier vision."

Is there a guy at the collegiate or professional level that you try to pattern your game after?

"Yeah, a guy I look up to is Reggie Bush; that's my favorite running back. Whenever people say that [I've] got good moves and I play well, I say I got it from Reggie Bush. I always watch his highlight tapes and stuff."

Is distance a factor for you?

"I'm open. Distance isn't really that big of a factor for me. It's not going to play a big factor in my decision."

What are you looking for in a program?

"Academics, I want to get my education. I want to go somewhere with a great coaching staff, cause if you have a great coaching staff, you play better...Some place where I can go and it just feels like home to me and just some place where they play good football there."

Have you given any thought as to what you might want to study when you get you college?

"I haven't really given it thought, but I'm probably leaning towards sports management or something like that."

What offers do you hold right now from other schools?

"Texas, Texas Tech, Texas A&M, Baylor, Utah State, TCU, Arkansas, Michigan, and I think that's it."

Is there anyone you've been speaking with that you think might be close to offering?

"Yeah, LSU."

Do you have a top five or a list of favorites at this point?

"No, I really don't have a top five. I'll just go whenever I can to take my visits and just gather information about the school."

As far as camps, unofficial visits, and Junior Days go, where have you been and where do you plan on going over the next few months.

"I've been to Texas and that's it. I don't really have plans just yet. I basically just go off my mom's schedule and whenever she's free to take me somewhere."
