East Valley's Roof likes Ducks

Andy Roof showed himself to be one of the best offensive linemen at the June 14 Nike Football Camp held in Eugene, Oregon. The high school offensive tackle weighs 304 pounds and measures 6-4 inches and definitely passes the "look" test. However, it was the combination of his test scores, performance in the Speed, Agility and Quickness training and position drills that garnered him attention from the other campers and staff.

Roof ran a 5.2-second forty-yard dash, a 4.7-second shuttle, jumped 24 inches in the vertical jump and benched pressed 185 pounds 20 time.

"He has great size and is very competitive," said Gregg Biggins, Student Sports Director of Recruiting. "He possess all the necessary qualities: he's huge, he's aggressive and he's very physical."

Despite all his accomplishments, Roof is still striving to get better. "I want to get in good enough shape to go 100 percent all the time." This includes getting faster and stronger over the summer and into the fall.

Roof projects himself as an offensive guard at the next level. He has received football scholarship offers from Oregon, Oregon State, Washington and Washington State. When asked if he is leaning to any one school, Roof says, "I really like Oregon."

Roof will be camping at Oregon and Washington State this summer

"Oregon is a good program and has a great staff," said Roof. "They are a perennial Pac-10 powerhouse every year and I really like coach Zoumboukos, my position coach."
