Are The Ducks Egu's No. 1?

Under heralded due to the presence of his teammate, five-star linebacker/safety Michael Hutchings, Concord (CA) De La Salle linebacker Victor Egu is slowly but surely catching the eye of big time programs out West. Despite only having three official scholarship offers, does Egu have a number one school?

Do you currently have an offer from Oregon?

"Yeah I do."

What kind of contact have you had with Oregon since the recruiting process started for you?

"I've had a lot of contact [with Oregon], talking with coach [Nick] Aliotti since last year since that's when I first met him."

How often would you say that you're in contact with coach Aliotti?

"Probably every week. I really like talking to him. He's a very good man and a very good coach."

You're teammates with linebacker Michael Hutchings, who also has an Oregon offer? Do the two of you discuss Oregon and recruiting, in general?

"Yeah, we talk about Oregon. He knows more about the school than I do. I ask him questions about what type of defense they run, how they play, what the school looks like, and we talk about going to the same college, but as of right now, we're not sure."

In your conversations with coach Aliotti, what kinds of things have the two of you discussed?

"He says he likes my versatility, he says with the way I play, I'm a smart player, but at the same time he says I need to work on a lot and he'll help and we'll talk about that more. But he says he likes the way I keep my grades up and he likes my attitude, and he likes my game, and he says to keep working hard and I'll do fine."

What is your overall interest in Oregon at this point?

"Oregon is definitely one of my top schools. I only have three officials right now and I don't really have a list, but if I did, Oregon would be definitely at the top."

What is it about the school and the program that has you so interested in them?

"The program is amazing, the coaches seems to do a very good job because they're always putting out great players, they're always flying around to the ball -- they're always around the ball; more than at least five people are around the ball -- they have great passing plays, their offense plays together, their defense plays together, the school itself is a very nice place, the city is pretty nice -- I haven't visited there myself -- but from what I've heard, it's a very good school."

How would you describe yourself as a player?

"I would say that I'm a smart player and I'm a versatile player because, right now, I'm not really sure what [position] I'm going to play in college, but I prefer linebacker, but I'll also say that I have a lot of improvement to do and [my coaches] expect me to ball out this upcoming year because I work hard and that's one of my goals this year."

Has coach Aliotti specified what position he prefers you at?

"He'd like to see me play at either inside or outside linebacker."

Is there a guy at the collegiate or professional level that you try to pattern your game after?

"Yeah, I look up to Adrian Peterson, Ray Lewis, and Patrick Willis, because they all play very hard and they have great instincts and they're all great football players and I love to watch them because they're always around the ball."

What are you looking for in a program?

"I'm looking for a program that has a great education program, the city has to be great, the people there have be supportive and great...I'm also looking for a team where, if I don't start my first year there, I'll have a good chance of starting down the road maybe next year or the year after that. I'm also looking for a school that will help me improve my game because I've only played football for about three years now and I still need to learn a lot more."

Have you given any thought as to what you might want to study when you get to college?

"Either the field of engineering or sports medicine."

What are some of the offers you currently hold from other schools?

"I have Arizona State and Colorado."

As far as camps, unofficial visits, and Junior Days go, where have you been and where do you plan on going over the next few months?

"I've only been to Cal so far, but in the first couple weeks of April, I plan on going to Oregon, Oregon State, Washington, and then in the summer I plan on going to Stanford, USC, and mostly likely UCLA."
