Rodgers (4-1), who entered the game with an unblemished 4-0 record and a 1.31 earned run average, engaged in a duel with Keudell, who has had a string of solid starts despite a lack of run support throughout the season.
It was Keudell (3-0) who stood tall at the end, hurling a four-hit shutout that he cemented by retiring the last ten batters in order. The senior rarely found trouble and didn't give up a hit until the fourth inning. He allowed only two Sun Devils to reach second base throughout the contest, and continued to show his proficiency at pickoff maneuvers, throwing out two Sun Devils to end the fifth and sixth inning.
In all, Keudell only faced 30 hitters during the contest, throwing 98 pitches. He finished with two strikeouts and two walks.
Rodgers pitched equally as well, save for the one pitch that resulted in Jones' blast. The junior also pitched a complete game, giving up four hits, striking out three and walking none. It was Rodgers third complete game of the season, and he did it by throwing only 88 pitches.
Though the Ducks had opportunities to score early thanks to a couple of errors, the offense couldn't get that clutch hit, stranding runners in scoring position in the second, third and fifth innings.
