UO Spring Game To Help Food Bank

EUGENE – Football fans can catch an early glimpse of the University of Oregon's 2012 football team, in addition to demonstrating their appreciation for our nation's armed forces, when the Ducks host the annual Spring Game presented by Bi-Mart on Saturday, April 28, in Autzen Stadium.

The intrasquad scrimmage, which is scheduled to kick off at 11 a.m., will conclude the Ducks' fourth week of spring practice as well as Chip Kelly's fourth year of spring drills as the school's head coach, with the game scheduled to be transmitted live nationally via the internet on ESPN3 and replayed on a delayed basis by Comcast Sports Net.

The Spring Game also will provide the opportunity to help replenish the county's local food bank.

The festivities will begin with a two-hour Fan Fest in the Moshofsky Center at 9 a.m., highlighted by interactive displays sponsored by branches of the armed forces, the Oregon National Guard and the Coast Guard. Included among the activities open to the general public will be a rock-climbing wall, an inflatable obstacle course and a display of military vehicles.

Food and beverages will be available for purchase in the Mo Plaza between the Moshofsky Center and Autzen Stadium, as well as on the main concourse on the south side of the stadium.

Much of the pregame, halftime and postgame festivities will include participation from the armed services, including a joint service color guard and ceremonies to honor the men and women from the state and their families for the sacrifices of their time overseas, a halftime flag-folding ceremony and a pre-game fly-over by military aircraft.

The format of the estimated two-hour exhibition will consist of two evenly-divided teams playing two 12-minute quarters, and a second half utilizing a running clock.

Parking in the east Autzen Stadium lot, which will open at 8:30 a.m., will be $5 per automobile. The Ducks' park-and-ride Sports Shuttles also will operate free of charge from South Eugene High School (19th & Patterson) and the northwest parking lot of the Valley River Center, with departures to Autzen Stadium beginning at 9 a.m. and departing from the stadium for 30 minutes after the conclusion of the game.

Admission for the Spring Game again will be three non-perishable food items, which will be donated to Food for Lane County. The local food bank benefitted from the donation of more than 68,000 pounds of food – a record for food donations to the local food agency in a three-hour span - and over $1,200 from the final spring scrimmage from a year ago.

The success of last year's Spring Game resulted in a record-crowd of 43,468 spectators.

Following the Spring Game, Oregon's baseball team hosts Pac-12 opponent California at PK Park with the first pitch scheduled for 2 p.m. General admission tickets are $5, while active military personnel will receive free admission.

Oregon returns from a third-consecutive BCS Bowl appearance and a 45-38 Rose Bowl win over Wisconsin. The Ducks will open the 2012 regular season Sept. 1 against Arkansas State in Autzen Stadium.
