Hinnant Calls Oregon Interest, "Very High"

With 10 offers currently in hand, Fountain Valley (CA) three-star offensive lineman J.D. Hinnant has emerged as a top offensive line prospect on the West Coast. Having already visited a myriad of Pac-12 schools, Hinnant says he'll take more visits this summer, hoping to have a top five by the time his senior season begins.

Do you currently have an offer from Oregon?

"Yeah I do."

How long ago did you receive that offer?

"Three weeks (ago)."

Do you remember which coach from Oregon offered you?

"(Steve) Greatwood."

How frequently would you say that you're in contact with coach Greatwood and Oregon?

"Not that often. I was in contact with him about a week after I got the offer and then I went up to see him at Oregon -- and I talked to him a little before that -- but not that often."

Overall, how was your unofficial visit to Oregon?

"The visit was really cool. I loved the campus, I loved the coaches that were there; everything was really cool. The fact that I have an offer from Oregon is pretty exciting because they're such a powerhouse in football. So yeah, the whole thing was awesome."

Was there one thing in particular that stood out to you the most while on your visit?

"First was how much they care about the players and not just about football, but their life after college football and all that. Then of course the facilities, they stuck out also."

What is your overall interest in Oregon at this point?

"It's very high...All those things (I described) stand out about Oregon. They're an awesome academic school, their football team's awesome, their coaches are awesome, and the players that I met seemed really cool too, so I mean, they've got just about everything."

How would you describe yourself as a player?

"Well I try to be as physical as I can be, I try to play all the way through the whistle, I want to pound the person I'm against...my lateral movement is really (good), I'm pretty good at blocking linebackers, I kind of need to work on my explosiveness off the ball a little bit on to the first level, but pass blocking is definitely my strength."

Is there a guy at the collegiate or professional level that you try to pattern your game after at all?

"Definitely Michael Oher."

Is there a specific position along the offensive line that coach Greatwood is evaluating you at?

"Yeah, he said he'd like me to play guard."

What are you looking for in a program?

"Education, the people there, and the football team -- like overall, how good the football team is."

Have you given any thought as to what you might want to major in when you get to college?

"I haven't decided yet, but I'm like kind of in between engineering, business, and law."

What are some of the offers that you currently hold from other schools?

"I have Washington, Washington State, Oregon, Oregon State, Cal, Arizona State, Colorado, San Diego State, Nebraska, and Duke."

Is there anyone else out there who you think might be close to offering?

"Not right now. I've been in contact with Utah, USC, and Boston College, but other than that, not really."

Do you have a top five or a list of favorites at this point?

"Not really, I'm just trying to sit back and look at my options right now. I'll definitely have a top five though coming up...Probably by the end of the season, so I can still take my official visits (I'll decide)...Probably by the end of the summer (I'll have a top five)."

As far as camps and unofficial visits go, where have you been and where do you plan on going over the next few months?

"I've been to University of Oregon, Oregon State, Washington State, San Diego State, I've been to the Nike SPARQ camp down here in Long Beach, then I was planning on visiting Duke, Nebraska, Colorado, Arizona State, Cal."
