Ducks In Top Three For Mitchell

Considered a top ten middle linebacker nationally by Scout.com, Plano (TX) Prestonwood Christian four-star linebacker Mike Mitchell says that Oregon is a school he has major interest in despite yet being without an offer.

Do you currently have an offer from Oregon?

"Not yet, but they'll be coming down next week and hopefully they'll offer."

Do you know what day the Oregon coaches plan on visiting you?

"Probably Monday or Tuesday."

Do you which coach or coaches from Oregon will be coming down to visit you?

"Coach (Don) Pellum the linebacker coach should be down here along with one of the defensive coordinators."

What kind of contact have you had with Oregon throughout the recruiting process?

"I've called coach Pellum a couple of times and we've kept in contact through e-mails and seeing how things were going. Originally, I wasn't scheduled for them to come down and watch me in spring until they got in contact with me and rescheduled to come down and see me. He says I'm definitely big on their list in recruiting, so hopefully that goes well."

How frequently would you say that you're in contact with coach Pellum?

"Every couple weeks just by e-mail we've been keeping in touch. I'll probably be in more contact too after the spring after he comes sees practice."

In your conversations with coach Pellum, what has been the nature of your discussions with him?

"First of all, he just wanted to make sure I was serious about Oregon because not too many people from out of state, like that come all the way from Texas, want to come to Oregon. But I definitely told him I was serious and he definitely thinks I fit in to their defense perfectly with their schemes and all that."

Has coach Pellum specified whether he likes you at inside or outside linebacker?

"Kind of a little bit of both because almost all of the coaches I've been talking to have been saying they want to put me at both. They think I can really help out if I can play inside and outside."

Overall, how would you describe your current interest in Oregon?

"They're definitely one of the top three schools on my list right now...My top three would probably be Oregon, Ohio State, Ole Miss, TCU would probably be in there...There's just a lot of colleges, so I'm still choosing. There's probably more than a top three -- everyone is about the same -- but they would definitely be in the top three."

What is it about Oregon that has you so interested in them?

"Definitely their defensive style and speed. A lot of these colleges, like Alabama, they like big, heavy linebackers at 250, 260 lbs. Probably, at my weight, I'm about 220, 225 and with my speed, I'd probably fit best there."

How would you describe yourself as a player?

"Unrelenting and fast."

Is there a guy at the collegiate or professional level that you try to pattern your game after at all?

"I've always liked Dick Butkus, but he's like an old school linebacker. Now, I like (Brian) Urlacher a lot too."

What are you looking for in a program?

"Coaching staff; just making sure they have good integrity in their coaching staff. Also, I'm hoping to get early playing time and play my first year there, so those are two important things. Then, I'm going to be majoring in business, so a good business school also helps."

What are some of the offers you have from other schools at this point?

"Some offers would be TCU, Ole Miss, USC, California, Texas A&M, Florida State, Ohio State...Those would be some of the top ones."

As far as camps and unofficial visits go, where have you been and where do you plan on going over the next few months?

"I went to the Nike Football Training Camp out in Dallas and I actually got the MVP honors there, so I'm actually going to be invited up to Oregon for the Nike "The Opening". I also got invited to the U.S. Army All-American Bowl for after my senior year."

When you go to "The Opening" are you planning an unofficial visit down to Oregon as well?

"I haven't really considered that yet. I've been talking to my dad and we're going to see how it works out cause of school and all that."
