Tavarres Planning Summer Visit To Eugene

After gaining hardly a look coming out of high school, Lake Oswego (OR) native Myke Tavarres went the junior college route to chase his college football dreams. Having molded himself in to a legitimate BCS conference prospect, Taverres had five offers in hand and could be adding more very soon.

Do you currently have an offer from Oregon?

"Currently I don't not have an offer."

What kind of contact have you had with Oregon since the recruiting process started for you?

"Well I've gotten e-mail, I've talked to them on the phone, and that's about it. I talked to them today."

Which coaches from Oregon did you speak with today?

"(Nick) Aliotti."

What kinds of the things did the two of you get to discuss during the visit?

"It was really brief because of the whole NCAA rules, but he watched me practice and he said he liked my speed, he liked my instinct to the ball, liked how fast I was pursuing the ball, and he liked my leadership and a few other qualities. He said I pretty much had a really good practice and he had nothing negative to say about what I did as far as practice. The only thing he really wanted me to work on would be to gain more weight."

What is your weight at right now?

"Right now it's about 205 lbs. I've lost a little bit of weight cause of track, so that's kind of fluctuated my weight a little bit...I think I'm going to see if I can get to 215 cause I still want to keep my speed."

Has coach Aliotti pretty much been the only coach from Oregon that you've been in contact with?

"Yes."

In your conversations with coach Aliotti, did he mention anything about a future offer possibly coming for you or anything about staying in touch?

"Yeah definitely. He said he wanted to be more in contact and get to know each other a little bit more, so I think an offer is on its way. He said he didn't officially want to get me an offer, but he knew what he saw in practice from me today, he liked what he saw, and he said he had to run it through (head coach) Chip Kelly. If Chip liked what he saw, then he'd talk to me and get me an offer."

What is your overall interest in Oregon at this point?

"I'm actually very interested in going to Oregon, but my thing was I never thought I could talk to Oregon, let alone play for them. I'm very interested."

Is there anything in particular that stands out to you when you consider the possibility of playing at Oregon?

"I like how they run things over there. I like the pace, how they do things in practice; I just like how the coaches are working right now. Everything seems to click with the team."

You're from Oregon originally. Do you know any current players who are on the team?

"Yeah, I know Tyson Coleman...one of the linebackers."

How would you describe yourself as a player?

"Very instinctive, I like to fly to the ball, very quick, I'm a team player and I'm a really good leader."

Is there a guy at the collegiate or professional level that you try to pattern your game after at all?

"Honestly, not really. I just kind of want to do my own thing and I don't want to follow in anyone else's footsteps. I want to lay out a path for myself."

What are you looking for in a program?

"I want to go to a good educational program. Football is only going to be there for a certain amount of time, but if I have my degree, that'll be the best thing for me, so that's what's going to sell me on whatever school I happen to go to."

Do you know what you'll want to study when you get to a four-year program?

"I'm going to major in communications and minor in business."

What are the offers that you currently have from other programs?

"I have Arizona, Arkansas, Rutgers, Texas Tech, and Nevada."

Are there any other schools, like Oregon, who you've been hearing from but who have yet to offer?

"Kansas, Oregon State, Purdue, and that would be it."

Do you have a top five or a list of favorites at this point?

"Not really, not yet."

As far as visits go, do you have anything scheduled over the next few months?

"I'll be doing summer school, working out, and lifting and working and I'll be running a couple of camps this summer. I think I will be taking a few unofficial visits to a few schools...I think I'm going to check out Arizona, I'll definitely stop by Oregon and Oregon State and I think I might take a trip down to UCLA."
