Beavers End Ducks' Streak

The Oregon State Beavers ended the Oregon Ducks nine-game win streak with a 7-3 win in Corvallis as the Beavers scored five unanswered runs in the final five innings. Oregon now is 42-15 for the year and tied with Arizona with a 19-9 league record for the the No. 1 spot.

Alex Keudell had a bumping night allowing season-high five earned runs on five hits and a more damaging season-high five walks.

Keudell got into trouble in the bottom of the fifth which spelled the end to his nine-start winning streak. The Beavers took a 5-3 lead scoring three runs on two hits and an uncharacteristic three walks. Jake Rodriguez led off the inning with double into left field, and Tyler Smith reached on a one-out walk. Keudell looked to recover with his second strikeout of the inning as Michael Conforto went down swinging.

But the middle of OSU's lineup battled as Keudell loaded the bases by issuing Pac-12 Player of the Week Danny Hayes ball four on a full count. With the bases loaded, Keudell walked in the tying run, delivering ball four to Ryan Dunn on a full count before Ryan Barnes plated the go-ahead runs with a two-out, two run single driven into center field.

In the win, OSU starter Ben Wetzler (7-2) tossed five and 2/3 innings, allowing three runs on eight hits while issuing four walks and striking out six UO batters.

Ryon Healy gave Oregon a two-run lead in the top of the first, launching a two-run homer over the wall in left center after J.J. Altobelli reached on a one-out single. For Healy, it was his fourth round-tripper of the season and the first home run a UO player has hit at Goss Stadium since the program was reinstated.

Oregon and Oregon State will play game two of the series at 1:05 p.m. Saturday from Goss Stadium. The game will be broadcast live on KEZI 9.2 in the Corvallis/Eugene region and ROOT Sports in the rest of the Northwest. It can also be seen nationally on FCS.
