Ragin Closing In

With schools lining up to see how he performs on the camp circuit this summer, Wilsonville (OR) two-star linebacker Johnny Ragin could be on the verge of receiving multiple offers from big name West Coast programs.

Do you currently have an offer from Oregon?

"No I don't have an offer from Oregon just yet."

What kind of contact have you had with Oregon since the recruiting process started for you?

"In the beginning I didn't have very much contact with them, but recently, it's started to pick up within these last three months here. I've been in constant contact with coach Don Pellum, the linebacker coach down there, and also with one of their recruiting coordinators, Josh Gibson, as well."

Since coach Pellum is the one you've had the most contact with, is Oregon recruiting you as a linebacker?

"They're looking at me mainly at outside linebacker, I believe."

In your conversations with coach Pellum, what kinds of things have the two of you discussed?

"He said he likes the speed at which I play the game and the intensity that I bring to the field and just overall aggressiveness that I bring every time I step on the field at that linebacker position. We also just talked about the academic facilities (in Eugene) and I've also been on an unofficial visit there with my coach and a couple of my teammates, as well."

When did you take your unofficial visit to Oregon?

"I think it was about a month ago. We just got a tour of the facilities and the practice field and everything like that...It seemed like a great place to be. The facilities are (the best) bar-none and the coaches and the players were all very welcoming. It just seems like a great place to play football and be a student-athlete."

Has coach Pellum discussed if or when you might be able to expect an offer?

"Yeah, definitely. He said he'd definitely like to see me in camp on June 20, which I'll be attending. He said a good showing at camp could possibly lead to an offer, so that's what I'm going to do. I'm going to go down there and show them why (I'm deserving)."

What is your overall interest in Oregon at this point?

"I have a very high interest in Oregon, just because it's close to my hometown, it's got a great business program, and overall it's just a nice place to be."

How would you describe yourself as a player?

"I'm like Taylor Mays, the USC safety; I love to fly around to the ball and I'm always hard working."

What are you looking for in a program?

"I'm looking for a winning program and a program that is rich in tradition; great coaches, great staff, they play as a team and a program where I feel like I can succeed at."

Have you given any thought as to what you might want to major in when you get to college?

"I want to major in business management and public relations."

What are some of the offers you currently have from other programs?

"I'm very close to BYU, Oregon State, Portland State, UCLA, and couple smaller schools, as well as, Oregon. I've yet to have an offer though."

Do you have a top five or a list of favorites out of the schools that have been in contact with you?

"Not just yet, but once the offers start coming in, I'll definitely have a list for you."

As far as camps and unofficial visits go, where have you been and where do you plan on going over the next few months?

"This past Saturday, I attended a camp at Oregon State which went pretty well. This coming weekend, I'll have the Nike SPARQ combine, as well as the NIke NFTC combine. The following week I'll have BYU's Junior Day down in Utah on June 13 and then the Oregon camp on June 20, followed by the Portland State camp on June 22."
